Wattles

Straw Wattles, also known as erosion logs, are man made cylinders of compressed, weed free straw (wheat or rice) used to intercept water running down a slope.  They are usually 8 to 12 inches in diameter and 20 to 25 feet long and are typically encased in jute, nylon, or other photo degradable materials.
